Writer's pictureYPI CREW
In January 2025, an all-female team will attempt to become the first crew to row 8,000 miles across the Pacific Ocean nonstop and unsupported.

Leaving from Peru, South America, Miriam, Lottie and Jess will row west continually until they hit the coast of Australia, targeting Sydney Harbour. The voyage will take up to six months and the team will break several world records in the process. To give context to the attempt, more people have walked in space than have rowed across the Pacific Ocean.

Trust and Partnership in Action

The Seas the Day team's commitment to their goal was what solidified YPI CREW’s decision to sponsor this journey as it showcases the same qualities we admire in our crew: dedication, exceptional teamwork and the pursuit of excellence.

Trust and partnership are YPI CREW's values and these values are perfectly echoed in the Seas the Day team's reliance on each other to overcome the immense challenges of ocean rowing.

“The strength, determination and resilience in the Seas the Day Ocean Rowing Team strikes a chord with YPI CREW's ethos. Our team comprises 21 talented women, mirroring the all-women rowing team's spirit. In addition to that, the concept of grit that is required for this challenge is something that really resonates with me.” – Laurence Lewis, President of YPI CREW.

What records will be broken?

In a series of firsts, the team will attempt to become:

  • The youngest team to row the full Pacific Ocean

  • The first team to row the full Pacific Ocean nonstop and unsupported

  • The first trio to row the full Pacific Ocean

Why are the team taking on this challenge?

1. Fostering empowerment

The team campaign aims to instil a sense of empowerment in individuals, encouraging them to take control of their lives and navigate their own unique journeys. Their goal is to inspire everyone and, being the all-female team, they are particularly focused on showcasing to women of all ages that there are no limits to their, regardless of the obstacles they face.

2. Environmental stewardship

The team will be striving to minimise their environmental footprint and want to serve as a platform for education on climate action. The expedition will provide a unique platform to enhance awareness of climate change and its impact on our oceans. Subject to funding, the team hope to work with specialists to develop curriculum tools for teachers in the UK and other countries.

3. Breaking new boundaries

This is a unique feat and they are excited to show what a team of women prepared to apply themselves to a daunting task with a stubborn mindset to succeed can achieve.
