January is traditionally one of the most active months in yacht crew recruitment. As the new year begins, many yachts reassess their crew structure, rotations and long term plans. This often results in increased movement across departments, particularly as winter operations settle and planning for the year ahead begins.
For crew considering a change, January is an important moment to be visible, organised and in touch with recruiters. While not every role is advertised publicly, early conversations and up to date documentation can make a real difference as opportunities arise.
Engineering Yacht Jobs
Engineering recruitment has started the year strongly, with consistent demand across several levels. We are seeing daily job requests for AEC 3rd Engineers, EOOW or Class II 2nd Engineers, and AVIT or ETO positions.
There is also steady interest in Chief Engineer roles, particularly within the 40–50m range, as yachts finalise their permanent and rotational structures for the year ahead.
Current areas of activity include:
• Engineers at all levels holding B1 visas for permanent, rotational and temporary contracts
• Chief and 2nd Engineers for rotational positions, from junior through to senior profiles
• Temporary Engineers for short notice or interim cover
• Licensed Engineers with AV/IT capability or strong trade backgrounds
• Dedicated ETOs and AV/IT specialists
Engineers who are available, flexible or open to discussion are encouraged to check in with the team and ensure their documents and certificates are current.
Captain and Officer Yacht Jobs
January is often a reset point for senior deck roles. While some yachts maintain continuity, others begin the year reviewing long term leadership, rotation structures or future operational plans. This can lead to a gradual increase in discussions and role changes as the month progresses.
For Officers, January tends to bring renewed momentum, particularly for those seeking stable, long term positions. Yachts that completed crossings and winter preparations are now focused on operational efficiency and continuity, which often supports hiring decisions early in the year.
Interior Yacht Jobs
January is historically a key month for interior recruitment. Many crew reassess their roles after the New Year, whether they are looking to step up, move yachts or adjust their programme.
We typically see increased movement across senior and experienced interior roles as well as steady demand for candidates with solid foundational experience. Specialist skills continue to be valued, particularly on larger and dual season yachts, although exact requirements vary by vessel and programme.
Junior and experienced stews who are organised, available and open to conversation are well placed to benefit from early year activity.
Chef Yacht Jobs
Chef recruitment often begins to pick up quietly in January. While not always high volume, this is a planning month for many yachts, particularly those preparing for upcoming seasons or reviewing onboard dynamics.
Early conversations and availability updates are key for Chefs who are open to new opportunities later in the year.
