June is the Mediterranean season at full throttle. Yachts are operational across the fleet, owner trips and charter programmes are running, and hiring activity remains high across every department. With leave rotations now underway and seasonal programmes fully crewed up, we are seeing a steady flow of open roles, from permanent rotational contracts on larger yachts through to seasonal placements and short-notice cover.

Below is what crew can expect to see in June, by department, based on current open roles and typical seasonal patterns.

Engineering Department

Engineering enters June in full season stride, with demand running across every level of the department. Whilst we have a steady flow of rotational positions throughout the year, we are experiencing more demand for permanent contracts on the 35-45m range and temporary contracts at all levels at this time of year.

Requests we are receiving from clients:

  • Urgent requests for Temporary Engineers at all levels, including ETOs

  • Chief Engineers:  C/E 3000kw – SV Chief 9000kw for yachts in the 40m to 60m range

  • Sole Engineers on motor and sail yachts for permanent contracts

  • 2nd Engineers EOOW and Class II for both permanent and rotational positions doe

  • 3rd Engineers and junior engineering on larger yachts from 80m to 100m+

  • ETO, CETO, and AV/IT Officers, with active demand across yachts from 80m to 100m+

Top tip: Engineers need to present a clean CV with current licences, a valid seafarer's medical certificate, and STCW refreshers up to date.

Temporary positions are moving quickly right now so if you are available at short notice, check in so we can match you to the right opening.

Captains and Officers

June is a strong month for officer placements. Leave rotations are running on a wide range of programmes and new roles are coming in regularly as yachts settle into their summer schedules.

Requests we are receiving from clients:

  • Chief Officers on yachts from 50m upwards, with defined leave contracts of 60 to 90 days

  • 2nd Officers with leave packages of 60 to 90 days across a range of yacht sizes

  • 3rd Officers on rotational contracts, including temporary roles

  • OOW and Bosun combined profiles on sailing yachts, including defined leave packages

June advantage: Be explicit about your licence, your availability window, and the rotation or leave structure you are looking for. Leave contracts at this point in the season move fast and clarity on those points accelerates matching significantly.

Deck

Deck activity in June is high volume and fast-moving. Seasonal programmes are fully operational, leave rotations have begun, and replacement roles are appearing regularly as crew changes trigger across the fleet.

Roles we are seeing:

  • Deckhands for seasonal placements, defined leave cover, and replacement roles across a wide range of yacht sizes, with several positions requiring a B1/B2 visa

  • Bosuns on permanent and rotational contracts across multiple programmes, including some with a specific B1/B2 visa requirement

  • Chase boat crew and tender drivers on larger programmes

  • Dive-qualified deckhands and divemaster profiles, where that credential significantly widens the range of available roles

  • Deck and carpenter crossover profiles on specific programmes

  • Mates on smaller yachts with defined leave contracts

  • Deck and engineering dual-competency roles on specific programmes

June advantage: Additional tickets, references, and logged tender or chase boat time continue to carry significant weight. If you have dive, medic, watersports, or carpenter qualifications, make them prominent on your CV and in your check-in message.

Chefs

The Med season is really under way now we’re into June and decisions are made quickly.

Requests we expect to receive from clients :

  • Positions for seasonal sole chefs for yachts ranging from 24 – 50m

  • Last minute demand for extra hands to help out with Monaco Grand Prix

  • Sous chef and Crew chef positions on yachts from 60m +, both permanent and rotational as well as short-notice relief cover

  • Temporary Guest chef roles for last minute trips

June advantage: Be ready with your bag packed ready to go as a lot of requests will need a Chef to start asap!  And a well-presented, up-to-date CV with a strong food portfolio or active Instagram page continues to make a material difference. Ensure that your referee contact details are accurate and up to date, as this allows clients and recruiters to verify experience quickly and move forward with confidence.

Stew Market Update and trends for June

Things are usually a little quieter at this time of year, and that's completely normal!

Most yachts have now finished their crossings back to the Med, and with the Cannes Film Festival and Monaco Grand Prix taking place, many are busy with owner trips, guest programs, and charters. As a result, recruitment tends to slow down slightly through May and into early June. The good news? Mid-June is often when things pick up again.

Once charters start wrapping up, we usually see a wave of last-minute positions come onto the market. Yachts suddenly need crew, and they need them quickly. That means the next couple of weeks are the perfect time to get yourself prepared.

Update your CV, make sure your certificates are in date, and get any personal commitments sorted at home. When those urgent opportunities appear, being ready to pack a bag and go can make all the difference.

It's also worth checking in with your recruiter. Let them know exactly where you're based, when you're available, and what you're looking for. It sounds simple, but location and availability are often the first things a yacht asks about when they're hiring.

Senior Stews

Right now, we're seeing a lot of opportunities on larger yachts, particularly 100m+ vessels looking for experienced senior interior crew.

With more new builds launching in this size range and only a small percentage of the industry operating on yachts this large, there simply aren't enough experienced senior crew to fill every role. That creates a real opportunity for people ready to take the next step.

If you're a Chief Stew from an 80m+ yacht, or currently a 2nd Stew or Head of Department on a 100m+ vessel, this could be the perfect time to push yourself forward.

When reviewing your CV, don't just focus on the day-to-day tasks you've done. Think about the teams you've managed, the challenges you've handled, and the results you've achieved. Leadership experience comes in many forms, and it's important that your CV reflects that.

Head of Department roles on 100m+ yachts now come with rotational packages, and generally yachts are looking for candidates with around four to five years of industry experience.

For experienced stews looking to move up, Lead Stew and Senior Stew positions continue to be one of the strongest stepping stones into future Head of Department roles.

We're also seeing some great opportunities for 2nd Stews across the 60m–80m range.

The majority of these positions are offering around 60 days of leave each year, which remains attractive for many crew. Rotational positions do come up, but they're less common simply because crew tend to stay in those roles for longer.

There are also several strong Purser opportunities available on yachts between 60m and 90m. Most yachts are looking for candidates who already have at least two years of Purser experience on similar-sized programs. While some of these positions may not offer a private cabin, they make up for it with fantastic itineraries, great teams, and the chance to join well-run programs with strong crew retention.

Junior, Experienced and Specialist Stews

June is always a great time for junior, experienced and specialist stews, as the market starts to become more active in mid-June.

Right now, experienced and well-rounded stews are in the highest demand across yachts from 20m to 100m+, with the majority of opportunities sitting in the 60–70m range. With the season already underway, most yachts have little time for training and are looking for candidates who can hit the ground running. Having at least one full season of experience behind you will put you in a strong position.

Typical leave packages are around 60–90 days per year, with many positions offering a 3:1 rotation.

We're also seeing a strong number of dedicated Service and Housekeeping roles becoming available on 100m+ yachts. These positions are ideal for stews who enjoy specialising in a particular area and who are looking to build a long-term career on larger vessels. If progressing into a future Head of Department role is your goal, make sure that ambition comes across on your CV.

Specialist stews continue to be some of the most sought-after candidates in the industry. Spa Therapists remain in particularly high demand, especially those with a wide range of treatments and strong guest-facing experience. Massage and nail skills are consistently requested, while qualified hairdressers and nurses are also attracting plenty of interest from yachts preparing for a busy summer season.

What June crew should do now

June is one of the most active months of the year for placements across every department. The roles open right now span everything from permanent rotational contracts on larger yachts to seasonal starts and defined leave cover, and clients are moving quickly to confirm crew.

Your practical checklist:

  • Confirm your availability date and where you are based

  • Make visa status clear, especially B1/B2 where relevant

  • Ensure certificates are current and visible on your CV

  • Check in through our website chatbot so your recruiter can match you to the right roles quickly

If you are actively looking, now is the time to get visible. June is when some of the best roles of the season are filled.
