August is the Mediterranean season at its peak. Yachts are running back-to-back guest and charter programmes, the fleet is operational across the board, and hiring stays active as crew rotations, leave cover, and short-notice replacements move in parallel. With the Monaco Yacht Show on the horizon, there is also a steady flow of dayworker and show-period roles alongside permanent and seasonal placements across every department.
Chefs
August is a busy month for chef placements, with the majority of requests being for experienced yacht Chefs who can jump in last minute to save the day! There is also demand for temp Crew Chefs for holiday cover when the season draws to an end.
August advantage: A well-presented, up-to-date CV with a strong food portfolio or active Instagram page continues to make a material difference. Ensure that your referee contact details are accurate and up to date, as this allows clients and recruiters to verify experience quickly and move forward with confidence.
Captains and Officers
The officers' side is exceptionally busy this month, and it is one of the most active departments right now. Demand is strong across the bridge team, with temporary, permanent, and rotational positions all open as programmes move through the peak of the season.
Requests we are receiving from clients:
Chief Officers (Chief Mate 3000) on yachts in the 50m range, across temporary, permanent, and rotational positions
2nd Officers (OOW 3000) on yachts in the 60m range, with defined leave packages or rotation
August advantage: Be explicit about your licence, your availability window, and the rotation or leave structure you are looking for. With demand this high, clarity on those points is what gets you shortlisted quickly.
Engineering
Engineering demand in August is steady across all levels, with a clear split between permanent and temporary positions. Several larger yachts are recruiting, and AEC / EOOW positions feature prominently this month.
Requests we are receiving from clients:
Chief Engineers across a range of licences, from Y3/SV Chief 3000kw profiles on yachts from 35m to 50m through to Class I on larger yachts +100m
Sole Engineers on smaller yachts, including AEC / EOOW profiles
2nd Engineers including EOOW, Class II, and MEOL+ profiles on yachts from 55m to +100m, both permanent and temporary
3rd Engineers on larger yachts, including EOOW and motormen profiles
Temporary Engineers at various levels, including tender mechanic roles and we are starting to get requests for B1/B2 visa holders
Top tip: Engineers need to present a clean, MLC compliant profile with current licences, a valid seafarer's medical certificate and STCW refreshers up to date. Make your licence is clear and prominent, your CV clearly states if you hold a B1 visa and check in through the website chatbot if you are available.
Senior Stew Desk
Just because we're in the middle of the season doesn't mean the opportunities stop. We're still seeing new roles come in, but they tend to fall into two categories: urgent starts or positions beginning towards the end of the season. If you're available now, don't assume you've missed the boat-get in touch with Louise or Annabelle today, as the right role could be waiting.
If you're happy where you are until the season finishes, now is also the perfect time to start planning ahead. Let us know what your end-of-season plans look like and where you'd like your career to go next. The best opportunities often come from conversations that start months before you're ready to move.
Right now, we're recruiting for Chief Stewardesses, Heads of Housekeeping and Pursers, with opportunities across 50-80m yachts, including a number of rotational Chief Stew positions.
The strongest careers aren't built by chance. They're built by understanding where the market is heading and being ready when the right opportunity comes along.
Junior Stews, Experienced Stews & Specialists
The Junior, Experienced and Specialist desks are on fire, with a high number of urgent vacancies coming through. Stews, Service, Housekeepers, Spa and Nurses -opportunities are landing every day!
At this stage of the season, we're seeing fewer opportunities for crew completely new to the industry, as many yachts simply don't have the time to train. Instead, there's strong demand for stews with one year or more of experience, particularly those who are available to join immediately.
With so many urgent positions, it's more important than ever to keep Anita and Maria updated on your availability and make sure they have your latest CV. When a new role lands, one of the first things they check is who has been in touch recently - so make sure your name is at the top of that list with your current location and available date!
