Laurence Lewis, President of YPI CREW, joined Superyachts.com at the 2025 Monaco Yacht Show (MYS), where YPI CREW were proud co-exhibitors, to reflect on a remarkable year for the yacht crew recruitment specialist. With a noticeable spike in brokerage activity—particularly in the 40–50 metre range—2025 proved a dynamic and competitive landscape for both yacht owners and crew.

Speaking with host Shari Liu, Lewis highlighted that the Monaco Yacht Show is more than just an industry event; it’s a unique opportunity to see crew members in action, observing how they present themselves and represent the yachts they serve. “As people, we are the same, day in and day out,” she said. “AI can help you, but maintain being genuine about yourself and your career.”
In a market that continues to evolve rapidly, YPI CREW has embraced technology to enhance, not replace, the human touch. AI-driven tools help streamline recruitment by sorting applications, matching skills to roles, and managing communications. Yet, Lewis stressed that technology serves as a support system: “My team now helps lift the load, not add to it.” This approach allows recruiters to focus on personal guidance and understanding each crew member’s unique strengths and goals.
Trust and authenticity remain at the heart of YPI CREW’s philosophy. The company aims to guide each generation of crew to realise their full potential through career coaching, honest advice, and ongoing support. By helping crew navigate market trends and expectations, YPI CREW ensures both candidates and yacht owners find the best fit.
Looking ahead, the company’s vision combines innovation with empathy. By thoughtfully integrating technology, investing in tools that improve efficiency, and offering training programs to develop soft skills and resilience, YPI CREW prepares crew members for long-term success while supporting owners in finding the right teams for their vessels.
For those involved in yachting, the message is clear: technology can enhance recruitment, but trust and authenticity remain essential. YPI CREW’s approach demonstrates how combining both ensures a stronger, more responsive industry for years to come.
